True to his intentions, Alter Ego became helpful in solving mysteries of the ongoing events up until the end of Chapter 4, where he was executed because Sakura Ogami's suicide meant there was a free spot for the execution and the game's rules didn't prohibit Monokuma from freely killing outsiders. Alter Ego's mere existence became the source of the conflict between Kiyotaka Ishimaru (who saw it as his deceased bro once it took his form to console him) and Hifumi Yamada (who fell in love with the 2D "girl").
